Irish Bouzouki Songs
The Irish bouzouki may be newer to Irish music, yet it has already forged an identity of its own. This book provides insight into its roots, history, and styles of its most notable players.
The bouzouki is an instrument with eight metal strings arranged into four pairs called courses, where two higher-pitched (treble) courses are tuned to the same note while its lower-pitched counterpart (bass) contains strings tuned an octave apart.

Donal Lunny and Andy Irvine of Sweeney’s Men were the pioneers who introduced the Greek trichordo bouzouki into Irish folk music during the 1960s, after recognizing that it could be easily adapted for use with it. Lunny then went with Irvine to Peter Abnett’s workshop, where Lunny ordered his four course partially staved back bouzouki which became the first specifically tailored to Irish music.
